Fluent in English, Spanish and Basic Dutch | Born in Argentina | July 20, 1986
Hi, my name is Martin and I was born and raise by the water of Buenos Aires, Argentina. I discover sailing when I was 6 years old, and like many I started in an Optimist, but I also sailed Cadet, Lasers and 420, and since very young I developed a passion for racing. I competed internationally representing Argentina as a youth sailor in dinghies all around the world (my best result was Cadet World Champion in 1999).
I started coaching for my home-club (CNSI) in Argentina while doing my Engineering degree, but now 10 years already passed by and I cannot get enough of it. Coaching became not only my profession but also something I really enjoy, by connecting with my athletes and becoming the coach I always wished I had...
I’ve worked as the Argentinean National Youth Coach for almost 3 years with great results in different events. I've also worked with Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Curacao teams.
During 2018 I was involved on an Olympic Campaign with foiling catamaran Nacra 17 with one of my first Optimist sailors. Being called to coach this Top-Sailor after 10 years was one of my biggest satisfactions and retributions, there is no end for the things you can learn within this sport!
For 4 years I lived on small sailing boat and while travelling through the Caribbean we started a social Project called Make Them Sailors, in which we provide opportunities for unprivileged children by teaching them about sailing and sustainability. This project was meant to educate, but also to connect and inspire. Now Make Them Sailors Foundation is supporting Community based sailing projects all around the world: www.makethemsailors.com
Currently Im living on the Island of Eleuthera, in the Bahamas. We started our own Sailing School, the Eleuthera Sailing Academy (www.eleutherasailingacademy.com) in which we combine High Performance youth sailing with a Community based program in which everyone can sail (Make Them Sailors!).
I am managing the Optimist Class in the Bahamas as head coach, making the fleet grow and the level rise. Recently we achieved best results ever in the last IODA events (Worlds 2022, Euros 2022 and Northamericans 2021).
